We select, you rate. Scores are on a 20-point scale, and they're assigned by our members who actually stayed there. If a hotel's rating falls below 16, it's gone — so your post-stay review is actually our most important quality-control tool. Thanks for that.

From the outside it looks like another lovely little whitewashed coastal hotel on Mykonos, an island where they’ve pretty much perfected the form of the lovely little whitewashed coastal hotel — but trust us, San Giorgio is something special. Before we get to the really good stuff, though, there are some boxes to check. The setting: spectacular, with abundant Aegean views. Beach access: three minutes away, by foot. The pool: a stunner, as blue as that sea in the background, with hammocks and loungers all around. The restaurant: top-flight, serving fresh Mediterranean-style meals, with a bar to match. And, last but by no means least, the rooms: as stylish as they are sunny, and they’re practically made of sunlight — sunlight and Aegean breezes.

Here’s what really sets San Giorgio apart, though: the ownership. It may not be one of the capital-C classics, but the hotel’s origin story is pretty epic. It all started when one of the owners, Mario Hertel, cruised into town on a fifty-foot party boat. He’d loaded the thing with his friends — DJs, dancers, party promoters — with the sole ambition of having a hedonistic summer on the island, and soon his roving beach parties were the most happening in town, even in a town with a lot of nightly happenings. The famed parties caught the attention of Mykonos’s then-struggling Paradise Club, which enticed Hertel to come on board to revive the place, and within a few years it became one of the most famous dance clubs in Europe, treating party-happy island-hoppers to shows by the likes of Moby, David Guetta, Avicii and a full marquee of other top performers.

Just a few minutes up the coast, the hotel is essentially an extension of the club, though quite a tranquil one, bought by Hertel and a partner from a local fisherman and styled to a T. Given what the ownership has done with what was once a struggling little nightclub, it’s safe to assume that their new hotel is going to continue standing out from the competition for years to come.

Even if you couldn’t care less about Mykonos’s party scene, you’ll still be treated to a stress-bustingly pleasant stay at San Giorgio. You could easily spend your whole vacation hopping around the nearby beaches (some of them relatively deserted), swaying in the hotel’s hammocks, dipping in the lagoon-like pool, eating fresh, light fare from the open kitchen, and sunbathing on the hotel’s private deck overlooking the water. But if you do want to get a little loud between your days of quiet leisure, you’ll do especially well to stay here. As a guest, you get VIP treatment at Paradise Club, a place where getting in the door at all can otherwise be a challenge; that means skipping the lines, access to the VIP room, free transfers there and back, and priority table-booking privileges. And given that the hotel is owned by the unofficial mayors of the Mykonos nightlife and hospitality scene, they know all the best other restaurants, bars and clubs to send you off to — should Paradise itself be insufficient.

Please note: San Giorgio Hotel is a seasonal hotel and will be closed from November through April. San Giorgio requires a minimum stay of three nights.
