Hotel Description

Yes, you’re reading that right. The Broome, with its 14 rooms, is an order of magnitude smaller than the typical downtown boutique, and it’s not hard to spot the connection between its small size and the fact that its atmosphere is uncommonly private for a New York hotel, especially one in busy SoHo. (Of course the inner courtyard, framing a surreal view of the open sky, doesn’t hurt either.)

Much is made of the hoteliers’ French heritage, and while we’re never ones to overlook Frenchness in any of its forms, this place is quite frankly New York through and through — its owners have been here for decades, which makes them New Yorkers by now, and just because it’s a fantastic version of Manhattan doesn’t make it any less real. It does exist, after all. (Somehow.)

The “pinch me” moment comes when you enter one of the Standard Queen rooms, which, in typical New York fashion, are slightly on the small side. They’ve made the most of the space, to be fair, and it’s definitely not cramped, especially by local standards. Junior suites spread out quite a bit more, though, and the high ceilings help. And the penthouse’s private terrace and balcony, naturally, help even more, if you’re in that end of the market.

The courtyard café and the little lobby boutique are the extent of the common spaces — anything more would spoil the mood. This being SoHo, of course, it’s hardly a privation — most anything you could want is available within a few minutes’ walk, or a subway ride, at most.
