What I liked:

Location was great. It's near a lot of restaurants, bars, some sights and the subway. Rooms are simple, but nice. Not a luxury hotel by any means, but perfectly nice enough. Great view. Nice rooftop deck.

What the hotel could do better:

They wanted to charge 1,400 yen for two cups of coffee. C'mon. That's outrageous. I really felt like they were just trying to rip us off. I expect that from maybe the four seasons. If you do stay there then I would recommend not eating or drinking there. They also didn't honor tablet plus - very disappointing.

Hotel Description

How’s this for a change? While most of Tokyo’s noteworthy hotels cluster in the more practical commercial districts, The Gate Hotel makes the most of a slightly unconventional location: it’s located in Asakusa, which is where you go to see what’s left of Edo-era Tokyo — and, since 2010, where you go to see the bizarre monument that is the Tokyo Sky Tree, the combination broadcasting tower and observation platform that now distantly dwarfs the city’s skyline.

In The Gate you’ll find echoes of both: as a gleaming modern high-rise, it’s clearly of the Sky Tree’s era, and its interiors don’t shy away from modern materials and clean, contemporary lines, especially in the public spaces. But in the rooms, where the palette grows richer and darker, you’ll find the influence, in spirit if not in detail, of a bygone era of Japanese life.

Just across the road is the monument from which the hotel takes its name, the Kaminarimon Gate, the entrance to the Sensō-ji temple, which dates back, in various forms, well over a thousand years. But for all that, you’re not far from modern Tokyo, either — the closest metro lines offer direct access to Ginza, Aoyama, and Shibuya if Asakusa's antiquated environs overwhelm you.

Please note: This hotel offers both smoking and non-smoking rooms. If you have a preference, please indicate it in the special requests section during the booking process, or contact customerservice@tablethotels.com for assistance.

How to get there:

From Narita Airport, it is a 56-minute train ride on the Keisei Access Express to Asakusa station. The hotel is a 3-minute walk from the train station.
