What I liked:

As an amateur athlete, the most important thing for me are training facilities. The swimming pool and gym facilities here are good. The pool is probably one of the best in many of the hotels here, it is a full 25m. Not many hotels offer that sized pool. The equipment at the gym are all up to date stuff, and located in the basement, which is good in that it is cool for workouts and not too hot.

I arrived from London at 4am in the morning. Rather than flaff around at the reception desk, the reception just took me straight to my room, took a copy of my cc and passport within a minute, and just left me to it.

The size of the rooms are more generous than the rooms you would get in some of the European hotels. Everything inside is well built. Big 42" tele which is nice.

Pick up by the hotel car, a BMW 5 series is nice. Very comfortable an driver is quite professional.

Room dining choices are quite big. I came to Chennai on business, and often do not get back till late, by which time, I do not feel like going out for dinner as it consumes a lot of time, so I end up ordering room service a lot. I have not been bored with the food. Ingredient quality is good, and so is the end results. I know when I leave here, I will miss some of the food I have had.

What the hotel could do better:

I often find the hotels give too many pillows, so I put away a couple of them in the walk in closet. Half the stay, housekeeping would bring them out again. Suggestion would be for them to take note of a guest's preferences to make it easier. I know its only a 30 second task for me to put it away again, but hey, this is a hotel whose philosophy is to leave guests going home thinking 'wow, that experience was mind blowing' and that guest is God. They are nowhere near that unfortunately. Not a bad service, just nowhere close to the mind blowing experience. Maybe you will get that if you get the premier suite. But for me, I would rate the experience as good, but average for the price/star rating.

Another thing is inconsistency, i.e. sometimes I will have a towel missing, or the bath mat is not there. Placement of the things like remote, stationery, and not always in the same place. If I was the GM for the place, I would have a checklist for the staff to cross off and sign their name against, and do random spot checks. Just my way of checking on quality. I work in a field where I need to give customer satisfaction, so I know where there is room for improvement, and how to go about it.

A hotel that devotes a significant chunk of its interior to meeting spaces and ballrooms isn’t hiding the fact that it’s catering to business travelers, but if you’ve ever been on a working trip to India and stayed at one of the eight Leelas, you’ll know that this in no way entails that the rest of the place should be charmless or utilitarian. In the case of the Leela Palace in the city of Chennai, just off the Bay of Bengal, the standard Asian mega-chain opulence is tempered by a very welcome clubby vibe.

The interiors evoke hushed mahogany-paneled studies — in other words, don’t expect cutting-edge minimalism or museum-of-modern-art furniture. The guest rooms are spacious, with luxury suites offering panoramic views of the sea. Even the smallest rooms provide more space than the average business traveler probably needs, but this doesn’t take away from the overall efficiency you’d expect from a higher-end hotel near the business district of India’s fourth-largest city.

It goes without saying that the public spaces are designed to meet every corporate need, from high-tech conferences to old-fashioned handshake deals. And for those accustomed to conducting business over drinks or a power lunch, the stately restaurants strike just the right note.
