We select, you rate. Scores are on a 20-point scale, and they're assigned by our members who actually stayed there. If a hotel's rating falls below 16, it's gone — so your post-stay review is actually our most important quality-control tool. Thanks for that.

You can’t fault the Rothschild for taking some pride in its address. Tel Aviv is Israel’s cultural capital, and Rothschild Boulevard is its hard-pulsing heart. Since the city’s founding some hundred or so years ago, this has been the central promenade where locals and visitors work and play, lined as it is with a cosmopolitan mix of restaurants, outdoor cafés, all-night party venues and now, to state the obvious, the Rothschild hotel. It’s a ten-minute walk from Tel Aviv’s famous beaches, five minutes from the business district, and a step out the door to a neighborhood that’s exciting in its own right.

From the outside, the hotel is one of the better-maintained Bauhaus-style buildings of the area known as the White City, where since the ‘30s there have been more buildings in the International style than anywhere else in the world. Inside, however, it’s another story: the Rothschild’s been thoroughly renovated with all the fittings of a top-flight modern boutique hotel, from an excellent terrace restaurant to the Egyptian cotton linens.

The Rothschild does a good business in longer-term stays in addition to shorter ones, and whether you go for one of the enormous residential suites or a smaller studio, the rooms all feel like places you could keep coming home to without growing bored. The hoteliers clearly have a thing for diffused sunlight — from the big paintings of sun filtering through a canopy of leaves to the airy white curtains to the canvas parasols in the leafy courtyard. The abundance of sunlight, it turns out, is a telling detail. While the beach and the financial district are each increasingly built up with towers, the area around the hotel remains pleasantly mid-rise, so while it’s dense with sights and sounds and tastes to explore, you’re not constantly overshadowed by towers. To put it another way, the best hotels here are ones like this — classic mid-size boutiques with outsize warmth and character.

Please note: The Rothschild welcomes adults 16 years of age and older.
