Hotel Description

Any Parisian hotel — especially when it's part of a foreign chain — that can actually boast its popularity among its fellow Parisians has to be something special. The Westin marque is new, but the hotel is anything but: from the authentic Napoleon III tapestries and design to the Louis XVI furnishings, its heart-stopping view of seventeenth century Tuileiries Gardens, and its walking-distance location to many of the city’s historic sights, it’s easy to see why it’s still a bit of a national treasure.

It’s a landmark because of its history and its architecture. The original designer was Henri Blondel, and white bedsheets hung from its windows in celebratory surrender during the Liberation of Paris. These days fashion royalty like Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix regularly set up their catwalks here during fashion week. But it’s more than a monument: the place is alive with al fresco diners at La Terrasse and a well-heeled crowd sipping cocktails at the Tuileries Bar.

Should you find time to sleep, all the rooms and suites are just as elegant as you’d expect — they’re not cheap, but they do offer considerable value for the money. There’s a handmade, artisanal quality throughout, which is a pleasant surprise in an age of industrial hospitality. All eighty suites are individually designed, and necessarily venture a little further into luxury territory. But even the standard rooms boast all the high-end necessities — and business travelers, in particular, would be hard pressed to find a more refined (or rococo) setting for a conference.
