Hotel Description

People go to Andalusia to see the “real” Spain, the old Spain, less modern than what one sees in the bigger, more cosmopolitan cities of Barcelona and Madrid. This is the region where Moorish architecture still stands alongside Catholic cathedrals and Renaissance palaces like this hotel, first built in 1500 as a private residence.

Carmona itself is a small town of Roman origin about twenty minutes from Seville's airport, a town of ancient monasteries, Arab gardens, and narrow winding streets. This would be a must-see destination for visitors to Seville anyway, but guests at Casa de Carmona are fortunate enough to wake up here every day.

The hotel is a gorgeous piece of restoration, converted into a luxury hotel just a few years ago, and retains much of its original architecture — the guest rooms, for example, all face the center courtyards, in the style of the time. The interiors are old-fashioned and rustic, but not preciously so, with fine furniture and antiques and spacious modern bathrooms. And if you are looking for a more decadent experience, the Blue Suite is your suite; two hundred square meters of opulence, stuffed to the gills with antiques and oil paintings, featuring two bedrooms, two living rooms, and bathrooms the size of big-city hotel suites.

In this sun-drenched climate it would be a shame to lock yourself indoors all day; fortunately, where most hotels have dining rooms and lounges, Casa de Carmona has patios, gardens, and courtyards. Dinner is served outdoors when possible, a blend of modern Andalusian and international cuisine, with a wine list befitting a Renaissance palace. The views are extraordinary, the atmosphere even more so, and luckily enough, the service does not disappoint.
