Stoke Park
Hotel Photos

Hotel Description
You’ve seen it on film, in a couple of Bond movies as well as the original Bridget Jones’s Diary. But a visit in person to the real thing makes it abundantly clear that Stoke Park is an institution that’s quite indifferent to the momentary ebbs and flows of celluloid fame. The estate’s getting on a thousand years old, after all, and while the mansion, by those standards, is a recent innovation, it’s still older than thirty-eight of the United States, to say nothing of Hollywood, James Bond and all the rest.
As a hotel it’s essentially the English country house experience writ large and luxurious: the rooms and suites are gorgeously authentic, as plush as can possibly be, with as many modern comforts as they can pack in without spoiling the spell. They’re practically beyond evaluation, and certainly beyond complaint. And should the historical atmosphere in the Mansion prove a bit too thick, the rooms and suites in the decade-old Pavilion edge rather closer to a contemporary style, without sacrificing anything in the way of luxury.
Of course Stoke Park is a bit more than just a hotel. The parkland spans some 350 acres, and the gym and spa rival any we’ve seen. The 27-hole championship golf course was established in 1908, and comes equipped with a dizzying array of modern additions, including a video analysis suite, for finally working that kink out of your backswing. Meanwhile the tennis facilities include grass, all-weather and indoor courts, so that the season never ends — it does peak, however, one week before Wimbledon, when many top players use The Boodles, Stoke Park’s annual tennis event, as a warm-up.
