Hotel Description

抱歉,本酒店描述暂无中文版本。 Tel Aviv is an observer’s city. Aesthetes, artists of all disciplines, and even just the visually curious flock here to drink it all in — not too shabby for just over a century of urban development. The atmosphere reaches its zenith in the White City, Bauhaus capital of the world and brainchild of the wave of German Jewish architect emigrants in the Thirties. Typical of their output is this 1934 building: once the headquarters of Haaretz, Israel’s oldest daily paper, it’s now enjoying a lively second act as the all-suite, 54-unit Diaghilev, LIVE ART Boutique Hotel.

Not that it’s lost an ounce of its International charm, mind; only a fool would meddle with those trademark exteriors, designed to thwart the harsh Levantine sun via judiciously placed windows, narrow balconies in tiers, and the all-important patio for taking in the cool evening breeze. Plenty of light still gets in, of course — the better to illuminate the ubiquitous, rotating roster of artwork (all for sale, by the by). As if that weren’t enough, the Diaghilev also hosts its own contemporary gallery, design studio, and startup-friendly workspace. Add in the Backstage bar and café and you’re perfectly positioned to make a disruptive entry into the arts consultancy business, should you feel inclined.

When you’ve had your fill of entrepreneur-speak, head upstairs to your suite of choice. Alfred Barr’s summation of the Bauhaus philosophy certainly applies here: “it is harder to design a first-rate chair than to paint a second-rate painting — and much more useful.” You’ll also find first-rate Oriental rugs and inventive light fixtures in the spacious, individually decorated rooms, not to mention flatscreens and thrilling city views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Higher-tier suites sweeten the deal with Nespresso machines, complimentary wi-fi, and the aforementioned balconies.

The hotel’s name eponymously recalls one Sergei Diaghilev, founder and impresario of the Ballets Russes, whose idiosyncrasies, worldly taste, and spirited character inform both the eclectic décor and the neighborhood at large. Rothschild Boulevard, the tree-lined central artery, bustles just a block away with cosmopolitan eateries and outdoor cafés; walk a little further and you’ll hit the beach. Let loose and don’t tie yourself to a schedule — Tel Aviv rivals New York for insomniac appeal.
